In this chapter, Jonathan Strange accompanies the blind King through a misty, snow-covered park where they are led by an invisible flute-player's haunting music toward a mysterious, sinister wood. Strange experiences enchantments and illusions that reveal his inner doubts and betrayals, but he uses symbolic mental defenses invoking the moon and bees to resist the deceiver's magic. Ultimately, Strange reasserts his presence and control, confronting the deceptive enchantments surrounding the King and himself.
