In this chapter, Case is interrogated by agents of the Turing Registry who accuse him of conspiracy involving an artificial intelligence and reveal that Armitage (Corto) is in custody. Despite attempts to resist, Case is forced to comply and prepare for extradition, but an unexpected violent attack disrupts the situation, resulting in the deaths of the agents and forcing Case to flee. The chapter explores Case's precarious position caught between powerful forces and his deteriorating physical and mental state.
