In this chapter, Shadow wanders through the snowy woods of southern Wisconsin, evading black helicopters and reflecting on his numbness and loss. He encounters a large raven, who cryptically instructs him to find 'Jackal' in 'Kay-ro,' leading Shadow to travel south toward Cairo, Illinois. Along the way, he acquires a dilapidated car and continues his journey, grappling with his desire for normalcy and understanding amid surreal encounters.
