This chapter recounts the journey of Norse settlers arriving in a new land, their faith in the All-Father Odin, and their initial attempts to establish a settlement. They encounter and capture a native man (the scraeling), whom they sacrifice to Odin, believing this will secure divine favor. Ultimately, the settlers are overwhelmed and killed by the native inhabitants, and their settlement is destroyed, though the Norse gods remain present and waiting for future arrivals.
