Chapter 11

In this chapter, Colonel Fedmahn Kassad follows Brawne Lamia and Father Lenar Hoyt through a violent dust storm toward the mysterious Jade Tomb, seeking the elusive Shrike. Father Hoyt, suffering intense pain from his cruciform parasites and lost in the tomb's labyrinthine corridors, experiences a harrowing vision of hell before encountering the Shrike, which appears and then vanishes after Lamia fires at it. Chapter 14

In this chapter, the group consisting of Martin Silenus, Sol Weintraub, the Consul, Brawne Lamia, and Fedmahn Kassad struggle against a violent sandstorm while trying to save Father Hoyt, who has been gravely injured by the Shrike. Despite their efforts to stabilize him with limited medical equipment and summon their ship for evacuation and surgery, the ship is denied clearance to land, leaving them stranded and vulnerable.
