In this chapter, Bod learns about the unconsecrated ground in the graveyard where suicides, criminals, and witches are buried, including a witch who was drowned and burned without a proper burial. Bod's curiosity leads him to meet the ghost of the witch, who tells her story of wrongful accusation and execution. Meanwhile, Bod struggles with his fading ability and continues his lessons with the other ghosts.
