In this chapter, Eileen attempts to catch John Bartholomew at Blackfriars Tube Station during the London Blitz but is initially blocked by a guard enforcing the all-clear restrictions. With the help of Alf and Binnie, she evades the guard and finds herself amidst widespread fires and chaos. When an ambulance driver is incapacitated and a wounded Army lieutenant needs urgent care, Eileen takes charge of driving the ambulance through burning streets to reach St. Bart's hospital, relying on Alf's navigation and Binnie's first-aid efforts.
