Chapter 45

In this chapter, Severn awakens in St. Peter's Basilica and discusses a troubling vision involving the TechnoCore's influence with Monsignor Edouard and Father Duré. After Father Duré departs to seek counsel, Severn is urgently summoned by Leigh Hunt to meet CEO Gladstone, but when they attempt to travel via the Pope's Door farcaster, they are unexpectedly transported to an Earth-like vineyard landscape outside the datasphere, suggesting the TechnoCore has trapped them in a duplicate or alternate Earth to prevent critical information from reaching the CEO.
